Dr. Walter Thomas "Tee" Wier (Sep. 3, 1924 – Oct. 25, 2019). Born in Wichita Falls, Texas to Wallace Travis Wier and Cora Ina (Horner) Wier, he grew up during the Great Depression and his father was a sharecropper. The family was poor but had what they needed. Ina provided a garden from which they were well fed and Travis worked hard to provide for the family. Tee, nevertheless had to work barefoot in the cotton fields to earn his school clothes. At Agua Dulce High school he  became the football quarterback. On December 7, 1941 WT was prepared to enlist in the Navy, However, his dad insisted that he finish High School and get his "piece of paper". He enlisted in the Navy, went to Moscow Idaho to become a radioman. He sailed seven voyages on Merchant Marine Vessels, as part of the Navy Armed Guard, in every major ocean on earth during WWII.

After the war, in 1946, he returned to Texas and married Effie Josephine "Jo" Conway (1928 – 2016) in Nueces, Texas at the age of 21. He and Jo started their college studies at Texas A & M in Kingsville, Texas but moved to New Mexico where they both obtained Bachelors  Degrees in Education from Eastern New Mexico College. In Portales, New Mexico they had their first son, Terrence Michael who lived just one day. After graduation, Tee taught classes for just a while and then began to work as a school principal in several New Mexico towns such as Luna, Tucumcari, and Alamogordo. At New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, Tee earned his Education Doctorate (EdD) specializing in reading in 1968 where Jo also earned her Masters Degree in Education specializing in music. By then, they had five living children. He was offered a position as an administrator in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Jo  became a music teacher there.

Tee was dedicated to cultivating reading and literacy in the children of New Mexico. As the Assistant Superintendent of Public Schools in Santa Fe, he helped to introduce school libraries, librarians, the Artist in the Schools Program, the Head Start Program and the first solar powered school in Santa Fe with the first computers during the 1970s.

After retiring in 1983, Tee built a lovely cabin in the mountains near Las Vegas, New Mexico. He and Jo retained the cabin but also lived in Hawaii, the Florida Keys, and Galveston, Texas. After Jo died in 2016, Tee moved to Georgetown, Texas to live in the Brookdale   Senior Center. David, Greta, and Trevor Wier also live in Georgetown and worked tirelessly and devotedly to look after Tee in his last years. Tee loved nature, gardening, and painting and was an entertaining storyteller.

In death, Tee was preceded by his parents; his sisters, Xrepha and Wanda Lee; and by his   brother, Wallace Travis, Jr. He leaves behind his sister, Lella Mae Andrews and his brother    Donald Sidney. His living children are: David Stanley Wier, Susan Pamela Carsey, Patrick Champ Wier, Catherine Jane Wier, and Claudia Rene Wier. His living grandchildren are: Daniel Nur Carsey, Lorien Elizabeth Carsey, Sarah Layli Sahrapour, Garret Thomas Wier, Trevor Hembre Wier,  Alvernon Travis Ross, Hillary Erin Wier, and Patricia Rene Wier. He also leaves behind eight great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th, 2019 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home.
