Obituary of Susan Diane Arnold
Susan Diane Arnold was born April 1, 1953, in Denver, Colorado to William John (Bill) Arnold and M Lucille Tell. She died April 14, 2026 in Georgetown Texas. Her life can be characterized by years of excitement and international travel followed by years of service and introspection. Born a bright, curious and determined person, she excelled at everything she tried. As a kid she enjoyed playing softball, which lasted into her 40s, gymnastics from junior high through college, and swimming throughout her life, becoming a lifeguard at age 13. Her last year of high school she lived in Saigon, Vietnam with her parents and sister Judy where her dad was working during the Viet Nam war. Her college career consisted of a Semester at Sea plus two years in Geneva, Switzerland learning French fluently. She then earned graduate degrees MBA and MIM and began her international finance career with Paccar, Inc., traveling the world, including French speaking Algeria, Morocco, Canada and living two years each in England and Mexico.
In addition to her serious business career she enjoyed a happy, fun side. In 1981 she married the love of her life Dwight Guidry who enhanced her relaxed, whimsical self as they danced, bowled and motorcycled together around the state of Washington.
In 1995, after the death of her dad, Susan experienced “ethereal choreography” and became a Methodist pastor. She earned her MDiv at SMU’s Perkins School of Theology and joined the Rio Grande, then the Spanish speaking, Conference and served a church in Amarillo. There she dedicated herself to uplifting others and making a positive impact wherever she could. In the meantime, she and Dwight divorced but remained close and when he died she was honored to conduct his funeral. In 2004, after only a few years as pastor, she developed brain lesions and was no longer able to work.
Although not as adept as previously, she made the most of her life and in 2010 she moved to Georgetown to be near her sister, Barb, where her fun, zany side came to the forefront. She enjoyed swimming, bowling and working hours at a time in her sister’s garden and as time went on, she became more introspective there. Unfortunately, in 2025 she suffered a stroke while bowling and, although recovering physically, her brain was unable to regain strength and she moved to Autumn Leaves Memory Care where she received wonderful care from their loving staff. She will be deeply missed but her warmth and tenacity touched the lives of many who knew her.
Susan is predeceased by her mother, father, and brother, George William Arnold. She is survived by sisters Judith Arnold and Barbara Ramsey of Georgetown; nieces Brandi Quimby and Denae Arnold, both of Arvada Colorado; great nephews Austin Buckius and Zachary Quimby and great niece Isabella Quimby.
