Obituary

Dr. Robert Dale Messer, of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 at the age of 92 years.
Bob was born September 5, 1930 in Belton, Texas and married Patricia Jean Kretzmeier of New Braunfels,
Texas on June 8, 1957 in Dallas, Texas.

Bob graduated as Salutatorian with honors from Belton High School in 1948. He attended Southwestern
University in Georgetown and graduated in 1952 Cum Laude with a BS in Chemistry. Bob received his MD
from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and in 1956. Bob then served in the United
States Army as the Chief Medical Officer at the Dispensary Caligny Kaseme, Orleans, France during
1957-1959.

In 1960, Bob and Pat moved to Mineral Wells, Texas and opened a General Practice and Medical Clinic.
Bob also continued a family tradition of cattle breeding by operating one of the largest herds of
Simmental cattle in North and Central America. Bob and Pat served the community of Mineral Wells until
1997 when they retired and moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Bob loved Mineral Wells and Eureka Springs in many different ways. He was active in Rotary, served as
the 50th president of the Mineral Wells Lions club, was Chairman of the Mineral Wells Library
Organizational Board, a member of the Palo Pinto Sheriff Posse, and was the organizing chairman of the
Carroll County Arkansas Community Foundation. Bob enjoyed music and was very active in the Mineral
Wells United Methodist Church where he sang tenor. He also sang in the 70-voice Ozark Coral in Eureka
Springs.

Bob had a great love for God, his family, and his fellow man. He felt strongly that all Christians are called
to Christ's servanthood in the world, to the glory of God and for human fulfillment. He felt that all
Christian ministry is Christ's work of outreaching love. He demonstrated a common life of gratitude and
devotion, witness and service, celebration and discipleship.

Bob is survived by his wife Patricia Jean Messer, his son Robert Jeffrey Messer and his wife Carlynn, his
daughter Carrie Melissa Gutekunst and her husband Bob, three grandchildren, Allison Joy Vickers and
husband Tanner, Robert Jacob Gutekunst and wife Maija, Catherine Lee Messer as well as five great
grandchildren. Bob is also survived by a brother and sister in law, Jerry and Judy Messer. He was
preceded in death by a brother Jamie Messer and a sister Nelda Schramm.

A memorial service is planned for Bob on November 11 at 11am at First United Methodist Church in
