Obituary

During the early hours of November 17th, 2021, beloved father and husband Michael Thomas Anderson passed away after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Michael, or Mike as he was called by those close to him, was born on June 24, 1956, to Charles and Lorraine Anderson in Chicago, Illinois.  Later they moved to Michigan, where Mike grew up in the city of Livonia.  Mike was active in Boy Scouts of America as a child and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.  He received a letter from then President Nixon congratulating his achievement.

In 1975 Mike joined the US Navy. He served on the USS Kitty Hawk and the USS Oldendorf as an Intelligence Specialist.  He served in the States, Korea, Japan and later Hawaii. He earned two Navy Commendation Medals and four Good Conduct Medals among others. In 1986 when the US Navy established relations with China, Mike had the opportunity to re-enlist. He was able to be sworn in on the Great Wall of China.  He retired living in Texas in early 1995.

He had several interests as a child that remained in his life as an adult. Mike had a deep love of history, a talent and aptitude for photography, computers, trains, planes, and woodworking. He built and designed several beautiful airplanes, train sets, computers and furniture pieces for himself and his family. After retiring he continued to serve his community by building homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Mike had three children of his own, Aaron, Kayla and Taylor Renée Anderson. In 1997 he met the love of life and beloved partner, his wife Katie Connally Sibson, and she brought him two stepsons, David and Scott Sibson. Together they raised all five children in a blended family, teaching that love doesn't have to be from blood, and family comes in all shapes and sizes.  Katie cared for Mike as his Parkinson's progressed, deepening their bond and love for each other.

Mike was a quiet and patient man. Children and animals were drawn to the peace around him.  He wasn't afraid to be silly and always had a clever sense of humor. He preferred laughter to direct confrontation and often made his family laugh with his mannerism and antics.

Mike was survived by his wife: Katie Anderson, and his sons: Aaron Anderson, David and Scott Sibson, his daughters: Kayla and Taylor Renée Anderson, grandson: Benjamin Anderson, brothers: Doug, Larry, Kenneth, David, Jimmy and his sister: Paddy. Mike was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Lorraine Anderson, his brother: Steve Anderson and his daughter: Brittany Anderson.
