Obituary

Jimmy Wayne Jean of Georgetown, Texas and Cleburne, Texas passed away peacefully on April 18, 2021 in Round Rock, Texas.  Jimmy was born on February 17, 1936 in Hill County, Texas to Viva Ethel Yates and Otto Adis Jean.  Jimmy grew up in Covington, Texas with one older brother, two older sisters, and one younger sister.  It was his birthplace where he met Nancy as early as either of them can remember.

Jimmy attended Midwestern State College for one year and the next year he married Nancy when she graduated from High School.  While they were both attending college, Nancy became pregnant with their first child.   It was at that time that Jimmy joined the Air Force.  It was in Phoenix, where Bruce was born in 1956, just 9 months and 9 days after their wedding date.  Nancy Denise, their second child, was born while in Fort Worth, Texas at Carswell Air Force Base while stationed there in 1959.  They spent 20 years as a military family and lived at eleven Air Force bases and three countries: Arizona, Nebraska, Indiana, England, South Carolina, Texas, The Philippines, Alabama and back to Texas for retirement.  Those first 20 years was only the beginning of Jimmy's career; Texas Instruments/Haliburton/GSI, the Veterans Affair and State of Texas.  He was passionate about his career and of those lifelong friendships developed because of his career. He kept in contact with his lifelong work comrades: Auggie, Juan, Joe, Lee, Domingo and many more. After Nancy died, Jimmy moved to Sun City, Georgetown.  He joined many groups, met great friends, and spent quite a bit of time at Gumbo's. In 2017, Jimmy married Ina Lee Roden who was from Johnson County. Their past 4 years, they spent in Cleburne and Sun City.

Papa loved no one like he did his grand-children and great grand-children.  He tried to make up for Granny's absence in their lives, as she never got to meet what she would have called "her greatest accomplishment."   Growing up, Papa made every friend of his grandchildren, wanting him to be their Papa too.  He was very proud to be known as Papa, or Papa GG, to many.  He was always a popular figure among all the children and teens in every place they lived, volunteering his time to coach Little League and Softball.  Always engaging, his players always appreciated not only his substantial coaching expertise but also his entertaining nature.

The Air Force and service to his country was one of the most important things in his life, if not the most.  No one loved the USA quite like him; the last day Jimmy, as we formerly knew, was the day the Nations' Capital was invaded and the rioting ensued.  His heart was broken.  Fortuitiously, the next morning Jimmy wasn't aware of what had happened the day before.  I can't tell you how many times in this very short period, many of us said "good thing Dad, Papa, Jimmy, isn't aware of the State of the Country."

Jimmy was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 55 years, Nancy Clark Jean; his parents; his brother, Otto Jean Jr.; sisters: Mary Helen Yarber and Harriett Yarbrough Seelinger; and one step-grandson, Christopher.

He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Ina Lee Roden Jean; her son, William Roden and wife Gaye, their children: Jessica, Will, Reilly and Scott, and grandchildren: Jackson, Harper, Ayden, Makenna and Aria, Tom Roden and his daughters: Kylie and Maddie.   Jimmy's son, Bruce Wayne Jean; daughter, Denise Berggren-Page and husband Shuler; granddaughters: Emily Jean Patterson and husband Blake, Laura Elizabeth Ritchie and husband Shannon; grandson, Travis Wilson Page; great-grandchildren: Luke Wayne Patterson, Logan Blake Patterson, and Ryan Elizabeth Ritchie; sister, Sondra Jones; sister-in-law's: Priscilla Clark Hunt and Ann Clark; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be: Johnny Wiseman, lifelong friend and partner in crime, Blake Patterson, Shannon Ritchie, Randy Berggren, Travis Page, Randy Jean and Tommy Yarbrough. Honorary Pallbearers are: Luke Wayne Patterson and Logan Blake Patterson.

The family would like to give loving thanks to the Poet's Walk Team and Bluebonnet Hospice, while they cared for our beloved, dad, grandfather, and husband during these last three months.  Words cannot express our gratitude for his care.   Our family will have a lifetime of immense gratitude at welcoming our beloved into your home and making him feel at home.
