Jeffery Wayne
Hersom
February 8, 1962 – April 21, 2026
Jeffery Wayne Hersom, 64, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully this week at Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock after a hard-fought battle with ALS.
Born on February 8, 1962, in Austin, Texas, Jeff lived a life absolutely brimming in service, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple things—especially a good view and a bright red cardinal (and maybe with a bit of Huckleberry whiskey in his cup). He spent his early years between Austin, TX and Hamilton, MT, later living in Tyler, TX before settling in Georgetown, where he built a life centered around family, faith, and community.
Jeff wore many (cowboy) hats over the years, working in the lumber industry and cable communications before finding his calling in public service. In 2008, he joined the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a correctional officer, deputy, and later as a bailiff. He took great pride in his work and the people he served alongside, retiring in 2023 as a Sergeant in the Williamson County courthouse after years of dedicated service.
More than any job title or accomplishment, Jeff was most proud of his family and stopped at nothing to be the biggest supporter of his sons’ dreams. He always gravitated towards serving others, including his volunteer work at Celebration Church and Young Life Work Camps, as well as being one of the main contributors (and the scariest) at the Williamson County Haunted House. He had a natural gift for making people feel at ease—often within seconds—and if you spent any amount of time with him, chances are you left with a smile (and maybe a new Texas saying you’d never heard before)!
Jeff had a passion for motorcycles - especially endurance bikes - and dreamed of riding every iconic route across the country and beyond. But equally as much, he loved slowing down: sitting quietly, taking in a beautiful view, and watching the birds, with red cardinals holding a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his amazing wife, Lynne Hersom; his children, Taylor Hersom and Hunter Hersom; his daughters-in-law Laurren Hersom and Lexi Hersom; and his brothers, Sean Riley and Aaron Riley. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Riley, who passed on Christmas Day in 2025.
Jeff will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, his service to his community, and his unwavering willingness to put others before himself. He had a way of turning ordinary moments into something memorable, often with a joke, a story, or just his presence. And while many knew him as “Jeff”, those closest to him knew that if you heard him being called “Jeffrey Wayne” by Lynne, everyone better straighten up!
A service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held on Monday (April 27th) at 11:00 AM at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas, with a live stream available.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Association in honor of Jeff’s life and legacy.
He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and often laughed about—in the very best way. When you see a red cardinal, think of Jeffrey Hersom so that his memory may live on.
