Harry Thomas Freeman was born on May 12, 1934, in Little Rock, AR to Geneva Grace Collins Freeman and Elmer Franklin "Buddy" Freeman. He later moved to Pine Bluff and lived there until moving to Shreveport, LA, his sophomore year of high school.
Harry attended East Texas Baptist College (now University) and graduated in May 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Harry was married to Mary Juanita Hudson on November 23, 1956, in Shreveport. They moved to Irving, TX where he taught 7 th & 8 th grade English and Social Studies. He was drafted to serve in the US Army, July 1957 – April 1959 then moved back to Shreveport to teach school. His first child, Laura Jean, was born in November 1960. In 1964 Harry reentered the army and was commissioned as a First Lieutenant. He first assignment was in Germany where they adopted Barry Thomas and where Ann Marie was born. In 1967 he was awarded a Master of Education degree from Stephen F. Austin University.
He spent 21 years in the military moving to posts in Texas, Kansas, and Kentucky. He also served in Vietnam and Korea. He retired at Ft. Sam Houston, TX in 1983. He then returned to teaching high school in San Antonio until he retired again in May 1994. He and Mary moved to Cloudcroft, NM that same year where they enjoyed mountain living until June of 2006 when they moved to Sun City in Georgetown, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Harry passed away on May 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister, his son, Barry, and son-in-law, Mike Fechner. He is survived by his wife, Mary, daughters Laura Fechner Hall (husband Randall Hall) and Ann Marie Rains (husband Tony Rains), sister Janet Brickell, six grandchildren and spouses and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews.
Harry enjoyed family get-togethers and social times with friends. His love of the Lord compelled him to not only love and serve others but also to share his faith with all who came into his life.
