Edward
Wirth
Aug 30, 1928 — Aug 17, 2020
Edward David Wirth of Georgetown, TX passed away August 17, 2020 at 91 years of age. Ed was born on August 30, 1928 to Edward Wirth and Ruth Stark Wirth in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Ed was a quiet, modest, reserved, soft-spoken man with the kindest smile. He was steady, calm, and unwavering in his moral compass and always helped others before himself.
For family and friends that truly got to know the full breadth of the man, he is described as extremely generous, dependable, committed to family, protective and caring. A rock-solid man who always provided the softest place to land for his family. He was a humble man who always thought to lift up others and a supporter to the underdog offering respect, advice and generosity. His humor was dry and a good debate was always welcome on religion and politics. There always was a conversation of the importance of saving for the rainy day that one day would come.
In his younger days, Ed went to Scranton Technical High School in Scranton, PA graduating in 1946. He received a teacher's scholarship, a medal for maintaining the highest average in science subjects for four consecutive years and top honors for his technical mechanical course.
College days began at Keystone Jr. College in La Plume, PA where he received an Associate Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1948, a Bachelor of Science Degree was received at University of Scranton in 1951 with a major in science and minor in math.
Ed's military service was in the Army CIC Division, counter intelligence. He received a good conduct medal award in 1956 and an honorable discharge in 1962.
Ed's first post military employment was at Scintilla Div. Bendix Aviation Sydney, NY as a Jr. Chemical Engineer. He went on to work at Rohm & Haas Co (now Dow Chemical Corp) on their physics laboratory staff. The majority of his working career was with IBM Corporation. He was recognized for 25 years of service in 1982, retiring in 1987.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Marian "Bunny" (Williams) Wirth, a marriage of 65 years. For the majority of their married life, they resided in Binghamton, NY and Georgetown, TX.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Wirth-Ybarbo and Leslie (Wirth) Johnson; grandchildren: Randy Graves, Kayleigh Martin and Kelsey Johnson; great grandchildren: Avery Graves, Sylas Graves, Colton Martin and Walker Martin.
Private burial services will be held for the immediate family only on August 30, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery and Prayer Gardens, Georgetown, TX.
