Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth McIntyre Oct 30, 1928-July 14, 2020

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Elizabeth McIntyre passed away the evening of July 14th after six months of a hard and bravely fought illness. She was born in Andalusia, Alabama in 1928, and moved to Pensacola, Florida as a young girl.  She then resided in many places as a military wife but called Pensacola, Florida home for more than 35 years, and then in 2006 she and George moved to Sun City, Texas.

She was married for more than 63 years and was predeceased by her husband, George McIntyre, her parents, William and Ethel Barnett, her sisters Jean and Ruth, and her brother Willie Ray.

Elizabeth McIntyre is survived by her two devoted sons and daughters- in- law,   Michael  McIntyre and Mary  Ellen of Gainesville , Florida, and James  McIntyre and Diane McIntyre  of Georgetown, TX, grandsons, Keeth Matheny and his wife Cory, Brad Matheny and his wife Heather; granddaughters, Jamie Foster and her husband Mike, and Ashley McIntyre, four beautiful great grandchildren, Truman, Carter, Sophia and Brooklyn.

Elizabeth McIntyre was a quiet, warm, and devoted mother and grandmother. She was known for her "green thumb" and could turn any yard into a showplace, her southern cooking that made any meal fantastic and her "mouth watering" delicious red velvet cake and her banana pudding. She loved watching sports and traveling to football games.  Later when traveling ended she always made sure she knew when the University of Florida or University of Alabama football games were on television.  She was happiest at family occasions being surrounded by all she loved.  She was a strong woman who handled life on her own, raising two sons when her military husband was away and always flexible to travel and enjoy their numerous military assignments throughout her husband's long military career.  When she retired from a career in retail sales, she loved making a welcoming home in Pensacola, then Sun City and in the Independent Living Apartments where she later settled in Cedar Park then Round Rock. Her last six months were spent at Wesleyan at Estrella Assisted Living, where all the staff and residents enjoyed her company.  All who met her were amazed by her wonderful disposition of never complaining and making the most of difficult situations.  She was tremendously interested in and proud of her sons, daughters-in-law, wonderful grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She never met a dog she did not love and particularly loved little "Buster".

A private family only memorial will be held on Saturday.  Then she will join her husband in the Veteran's Cemetery in Killeen, TX.  Donations in lieu flowers may be made to Wesleyan Hospice.
