Obituary

Yasuko Atkinson, a longtime resident of Liberty Hill, died February 25, 2026. Born in Japan on February 13, 1931, she later met and married Romane S. Atkinson while he was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan during his service in the Navy. A dedicated homemaker and a devoted American Red Cross volunteer for 36 years, she served in numerous hospitals and was highly recognized with awards and medals for her commitment. She found great joy in crocheting, knitting, and other handiwork.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, a retired US Army veteran. She is survived by her son, Michael, of the US Forest Service, and her daughter, Gloria. Her daughter and recently deceased son-in-law, Albert G. Rountree, both retired from the US Army. She is also survived by her granddaughter Emily (husband Sean Rogers), grandson Tyler (wife Sacha Masuca), and great-granddaughters AnnMarie and Charlotte.

Yasuko was a member of the LDS Church and will be buried at the Texas Veterans Cemetery on March 11, 2026 at 11am. Visitation will be March 10, 2026; 5-7pm.
