William Wiley
Lofland
May 14, 1936 – October 13, 2025
On the morning of October 13, 2025, William "Bill" Lofland, Jr. joined his wife Karen Sue Lofland and daughter, Karen Lofland, in heaven. He was 89 years old. He is survived by his loving daughter "baby girl", Leslie Barone, loved ones and many friends.
He was born in Abilene, Texas on May 14, 1936, to William Wiley Lofland, Sr. and Carrie Belle Carter.
William enlisted in the USAF at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio and left with an honorable discharge. After completing his studies and earning his degree in aeronautical engineering, he soon began his career in aerospace. Throughout his career, William found himself involved in many exciting and leading-edge assignments.
In addition, to working for aerospace companies, he also worked with NASA and was involved in work associated with the Apollo program. He played an important role in landing men on the moon.
At one point, he even considered joining the astronaut training program in the hope of one day going to the moon himself, however, his family was most important. That was one dream that was second on his list, but with no regret.
He was an avid photographer and loved the game of football. He was a loyal fan of Texas A&M and enjoyed watching the Aggies on tv.
William's life was clearly full and blessed. He was a proud Texan and a true Southern gentleman and a scholar. We will miss him dearly.
