William "Joey"
Joseph Briggs
November 18, 1963 – August 23, 2025
William "Joey" Joseph Briggs, 61, passed away on August 23, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born with a sharp wit, a big personality, and a heart that always had room for the people he loved, Joey lived life with laughter, loyalty, and grit.
Joey proudly served in law enforcement from 1986 until his retirement in 2022 with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office, holding the rank of Lieutenant and earning respect across the community. Over the course of his career, he completed 2,172 hours of continued training, achieving the distinction of Master Peace Officer, the highest level in TCOLE. In 2010, his bravery was recognized by The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. He received the prestigious Valor Award.
Outside of his career, Joey loved the simple joys of life: fishing, grilling and outdoor cooking, watching football, trips to the casino, and, above all, time spent with his kids and grandchildren. He was quick with sarcasm, loved a good joke, and while he could be tough around the edges, those who knew him best understood that his humor and big heart were always close behind.
Joey's life was shared with his partner, Peggy Braun, and he leaves behind a loving family: his ex-wife turned dear friend, Francie Briggs; his children, Ashlie (Jeremy Despain), Whitney (Chase Cervenka), Kaytlin (Patrick Kellum), Peyton (Brianna Briggs), and Amanda (Pearce Loth); his brother, Gerald Briggs (Loreta); his step-sister, Cathy (Tony Matta); his aunt Sharon, who was like a mother to him; his aunt Elizabeth and uncle Mike; many cousins; and 12 grandchildren who were the light of his life.
He is preceded in death by his son, Walker Briggs; his brother, John Briggs; his father, Ralph Briggs; and his stepmother, Alice Briggs.
A visitation will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Dale's Essenhaus beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Please hold Joey's family close in your hearts and prayers as they learn to navigate life without him, carrying forward his laughter, his stories, and his love.
In lieu of flowers please offer a donation to the 100 CLUB. Their mission is to provide immediate financial assistance to the dependent families of peace officers and firefighters who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty and to provide life-saving equipment to local law enforcement agencies.
