Warren Lee Larson, 87, died peacefully on March 8, 2025.
He was born in Nevada, lowa, the son of Elmer and Arlie (Knudson) Larson, and grew up on the family farm north of Fernald in Story County, Iowa. In 1961 he graduated from lowa State University with a B.S. degree in Foreign Trade and Service. He joined the Army and was sent to Army Language School at the Presidio in Monterey, California. From there he was sent to Germany, receiving an honorable discharge in 1964. Most of his career was spent working for the Social Security Administration in Pennsylvania and in Iowa.
In 1969 he met the love of his life, Elaine (Tegtmeier) who came in as a Claims Representative Trainee and in 1970 became his wife of almost 55 years. They both enjoyed travel and genealogy as hobbies, and from 1985 to 1995 they operated a store called Travel Genie, which sold maps, books, and gifts for travel and genealogy, in Ames, lowa. They retired to Georgetown, Texas in 2009, attending Christ Lutheran Church.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Mary Anne Long; Brothers-in-Law Dennis Tegtmeier (Delores) and Ronald Tegmeier (Lynne); and numerous nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
In accordance with Warren's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. The family will gather privately at a later date in remembrance of his life to scatter his cremains in the Scattering Garden at Christ Lutheran Church, Georgetown.
