Warren Lee
Broz
June 18, 1927 – August 16, 2025
Warren was born in Eureka California. At the age of three he moved to Rowena Texas. He grew up on a farm and rode a Shetland pony to school from first through the eighth grade. He graduated from Eola high school. In 1944 he joined the Navy and served 2yrs overseas in World War II.
He met his bride Bernadette at a dance and one year later, July 6, 1949, they were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Angelo. The couple began farming and did so until the seven-year drought changed their course and they moved to Austin in 1956. Warren opened Broz Gulf in 1957. He was well known to many of the residents in Allandale, Crestview and surrounding neighborhoods as he took care of their automotive needs until he retired in late 1991. His customers knew that they could depend on him and that he was trustworthy.
He and Bernie (as she is known) were founding members of St. Louis Catholic church. Warren was active in his church community, serving as an usher for many years and taking care of the vehicles of many of the priests that served there. He attended 6:30 Mass every morning before he started his workday. It was a very important part of his routine.
In 1972 he donated one of his kidneys to his eldest son Randy. It was one of the first kidney transplants in Texas and remained successful until Randy's passing in 2006.
Warren retired in late 1991 passing the business on to his son Roger. They moved to Liberty Hill. They joined Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Andice and are current members there. He always liked staying busy and doing things and so at the age of 70 he went into the cattle business with his son-in-law Gary and daughter Loretta. He continued in that business until his early 90s.
Warren was very active for most of his life and in retirement he enjoyed caring for the animals at their home. Each day he would feed the deer, turkey, squirrels, birds and especially the hummingbirds. He enjoyed being outside and taking care of the land. He was still mowing and running his tractor into his mid 90s.
On July 6, 2025 they celebrated their 76th wedding anniversary, a milestone that few couples reach. God and family were always most important to Warren. His counsel, guidance, and wisdom were sought by family. He was a gentle and kind man, who made an impression on most all he met. In fact he has a great grandson named after him. Little Warren is now 6 yrs. old.
Warren had a great sense of humor. He made others laugh and smile. He was a joy to be with. Even though he could be quiet and was often soft-spoken he made a huge impact on his family. He will be deeply missed and our memories of him will be cherished.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son Randy. He is survived by his wife Bernadette, daughter-in-law Lynn Broz, Randy's widow, son Roger and daughter-in-law Linda Broz, daughter Loretta and favorite son-in-law Gary Reid, and son Robert (Bobby) and daughter-in-law Phyllis Broz; Grandchildren: Shawn and husband Jason Culbertson, Travis and wife Candace Reid, Adam and wife Nancy Broz, Jared and wife Stacie Broz, and Hillary and husband Luke Bernhard.
