Obituary

Velma Jean Horsch was born September 15, 1937 near Foosland, Illinois to Joseph. W and Ruth Sarah Horsch. She joined four brothers: Don (1928), Floyd (1930), Orville (1931), and Joseph Junior (1934).

Velma was baptized into the East Bend Mennonite Church (Fisher, IL.) at age 11. She later attended the Gibson City Bible Church until leaving for college. In Chicago, Velma became a member of Moody Church.

Velma attended Center School, a vintage one-room schoolhouse, for three years. She completed her grade schooling in Foosland and Fisher Illinois. Fisher Illinois High School was her graduation site in 1955. Following graduation, she attended Fort Wayne Bible College (Indiana) for one year; Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL. in 1957. She graduated from Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in 1960 and completed studies for B.S. in Nursing at North Park College, Chicago, IL. in 1961.

Velma was employed by Swedish Covenant Hospital for 35 years, serving in various capacities: teaching in the School of Nursing, training nursing assistants, monitoring infection control, and establishing a Occupational Health Department.

She married Robert Frederick in 1961; Robert succumbed to cancer in 1981. In 1993 David Condreay and Velma married; they moved to Cerro Gordo where David accepted a position as Senior Pastor of The Brethren Church.

Moving to Ocala, Florida in 1994, Dave and Velma became active in the Presbyterian (PCA) Church. Both were active in various aspects of the ministry; with dedication to visitation consuming much of their time.

The Condreays retired to the Covenant Living of Florida residence in 2012 where they continued active in various aspects of service to others. She is survived by her husband, David Condreay, and one brother, Orville, of Oklahoma City, Ok. being preceded in death by her three older brothers.
