Obituary

Tim Magness, 76 years old, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on July 27, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.at Ramsey Funeral Home, located at 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78633. A reception will immediately follow at the Jarrell/Walburg Room within the Cowan Creek Amenity Center in Sun City, located at 1433 Cool Spring Way, Georgetown.

Tim Magness was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to John and Marguerite Magness on February 3, 1949. He spent his formative years primarily living in Oklahoma before his family finally settled in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. It was in Earlsboro where Tim met the first great love of his life, Marian "Gail" Howell.  He graduated high school in 1967 and immediately enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. He soon married Gail, before he was first deployed to Vietnam in 1968.  Tim returned home and his first daughter, Andrea Lee Magness, was born in July of 1971. He extended his enlistment with the Marines and was again deployed to Vietnam in 1972. In total, Tim served 6 years in the Marines and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam where he valiantly fought for our country.  In that time, he was awarded the Meritorious Mast, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, RVN Cross of Gallantry, National Defense Service Medal, and a Certificate of Commendation for his heroic actions.

After his honorable discharge from the United States Marines Corps in 1973, Tim and Gail started a new life in California where they doted on their daughter and used their strong work ethic to make ends meet.

His second daughter, Amber Lynne Magness, was born three years exactly to the day that his first daughter was born. Not only did these girls share the exact same birthday, they shared the same spirit and completed their family. Tim's greatest pride was his family and he made sure everyone knew it.

When Tim's beloved wife, Gail, died of ovarian cancer in 2002, Tim never thought he would find love again but on September 10, 2003, he was so lucky to meet the next great love of his life, Debby Ekeberg.

Tim and Debby built a life that started in Ventura, California and they married on March 8, 2006. After marriage, they moved to Texas and were soon joined there by both daughters and their family.

Tim was a people person and had an infectious personality, making the people in his presence love him and likewise, feel loved. Tim had such a skill of making people feel special, and this served him well working as a Human Resources manager at Raytheon (formerly Hughes Aircraft Company). Tim was generous beyond measure in every conceivable way. It was not unusual for Tim to gift someone something that they just happened to mention they liked in his home. He literally would give anyone the shirt off their back if they needed it or simply just liked it.

While Tim had many accomplishments including his time in the Marines as well as his work with Raytheon/Hughes, Tim's greatest accomplishment was his family. When Tim's first grandchild, Luke S. Austin, was born in 2004, he found a new lease on life and adored (and spoiled) Luke. Tim retired from Raytheon right before Luke was born and was able to spend a great majority of Luke's first two years of life until he and Debby moved to Texas in 2006. In May of 2007, his second grandchild, Carly Gail Austin, was born and the adoration, and even more spoiling, continued twofold.

Tim will always be remembered as loving, funny, supportive, fun, loyal, brave, sensitive, adventurous, and at times, downright stubborn. He had great taste in music and loved dancing, even if he only had one dance move for every dance he did. Tim loved football, but he was especially devoted to the University of Oklahoma football. When OU was playing, everyone would know because Tim could be heard screaming at the television.

Tim is preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother, Bob Magness, as well as his first wife, Gail.

Tim is survived by his beloved family which includes his wife, Debby Magness, his daughter, Amber Magness and her partner Junai Somyn, his daughter, Andrea Austin and her husband, Joe Austin, along with their children Luke S. Austin and Carly Gail Austin.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to everyone who has provided their love and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family hopes that the public continues to support any past or current soldiers who are currently deployed or who have returned from war.
