Thomas Rice, age 69, of Georgetown, TX transitioned to Heaven on February 12, 2016 surrounded by his family. Tom and his identical twin brother, Tim, were born on March 26, 1946 to Ted and Betty Rice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They joined older brother Terry and the three boys grew up with a life-long loyalty to the Pirates and the Steelers. When Tom was 16 years old his family moved to Texas where he met Catherine Ruhlen and they were married on June 8, 1968 in Beaumont, Texas.

Tom attended Lamar University earning a Bachelor of Business Administration. Tom and Cathy moved to Durham, North Carolina where Tom attended Duke University and earned a Master of Hospital Administration. He spent a fifty-one year career in healthcare until retirement in 2011. Tom was a Fellow in the American College of Hospital Executives. Tom's career grew throughout the '70s and '80s in Houston. First as COO of Park Plaza Hospital, then Senior VP of Hospital Equities Inc. where he participated in taking the company public. Later he was COO of Health-Star, which owned and managed hospitals in rural Texas communities. In the early '90s Tom moved to Austin and worked as Senior Vice President of St. David's Medical Center prior to the joint venture with HCA. Tom served the balance of his career in Oklahoma City in various hospitals. He was President of Baptist Medical Center and Southwest Medical Center, Vice President of Healthcare Partners Investments. Tom's last position was President of First Physicians Capital Group, which owned and operated hospitals in Oklahoma and Texas.

Tom was preceded in death by his mother, father, and twin brother. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Cathy, married over 47 years; his daughter Karen and her husband Bryan; his son Brian and his wife Kristen; his grandsons Aidan, Samuel and Brooks; his brother Terry and his wife Anita; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Tom's physicians: Spitler, Saadeh, Fields, Dekeratry, Lester and Downie – all of whom provided exceptional care - and also the nurses and employees of St. David's Georgetown Hospital. We are eternally grateful.

A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, Texas. 703 S. Church Street, Georgetown, Texas 78626.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Tom's honor to First Presbyterian Church , Georgetown or Meals on Wheels .
