Thomas Freeman Matthews, age 73, of Georgetown, Tx passed away on August 18, 2026. He was born at Fort Bragg in North Carolina to Robert and Ruth Matthews. After graduating from LeTourneau University, Tom worked as an Electrical Engineer in the high tech industry. In 2005 Tom obtained his teaching certificate and taught in public and private schools for the remainder of his career. While attending LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, he met the love of his life, Susan Gillis. They married on December 19, 1974.

In 2017, Tom and Susan moved from their Austin home of 40 years to Sun City. The Worship Place became their home church where Tom was active in the Special Friends Program. Tom enjoyed many activities with friends and great neighbors. He loved walking in his N14 neighborhood, and he especially enjoyed taking aqua classes with his “pool wives”.

Tom and Susan had many wonderful and blessed moments in 53 years of marriage. Two of Tom’s most blessed moments were walking his daughter, Adrian, down the aisle to marry Dallas Ream and the birth of granddaughter, Eleanor. Other special moments were holidays with the Ream Family, the Parkers and Aunt Kathy.

Tom is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Adrian and her husband Dallas Ream, grandchild Eleanor, and brothers Robert Jr. and Larry Paul Matthews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Ramsey Funeral Home at 11. Preceding the service will be a time of viewing and visitation at 10.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to The Worship Place- Special Friends Ministry in memory of Tom. Special Friends is a wonderful ministry program for those with dementia.
