Thomas Leroy Hudgins, 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away on October 15, 2020, in Georgetown, Texas.
Tom was born on March 31,1927 in Velasco, Texas to Tom and Josephine Hudgins and grew up in Danbury, Texas with five siblings and four adopted siblings. He attended Danbury schools until his senior year when he moved to Pender, Nebraska where he lived with the Fredericksen family and worked on their dairy farm, graduating from Pender High School in 1945.
Upon Tom's graduation, he enlisted in the Navy along with many other young men to fight in World War II. After the war, he returned to Texas where he attended the University of Houston and then went to work in the oil fields of West Texas and New Mexico where he gained experience that would be helpful for the rest of his career.
Tom married Ruth Wollam in 1950. They would be married 59 years and raise three children together. Also in 1950 Tom was hired by Phillips Petroleum Company, where his diligence and work ethic helped him enjoy a successful career as a Fire Prevention and Safety Director. Tom and Ruth enjoyed traveling the world as Tom's work allowed them to live in London and Singapore, as well as states such as Oklahoma, South Carolina and Texas in the USA. Tom loved every place they lived, telling everyone, "You can be happy anywhere!"
In retirement, Tom and Ruth chose to live in Sun City, Texas where Tom enjoyed playing golf several times a week. Tom and Ruth were active in the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, and enjoyed dinners with friends and participating in Sun City activities. In 2010 Ruth passed away after a long battle with cancer.
As someone who loved competition, including Dallas Cowboy and Houston Astros games, Tom enjoyed playing dominoes with his Sun City friends. In 2014, he met Ann who had joined the dominos group and they married that same year. The two of them enjoyed visiting both of their children's families and also enjoyed many adventures together such as their mission trip to Singapore and volunteering their time through the Caring Place in Georgetown.
Always ready with a witty saying and twinkle in his eye, Tom was known for his hard work and his "know-how". He seemed able to fix anything and was always willing to help. He could be counted on in all situations and his integrity was his calling card. Tom never hesitated to share his sourdough starter or his many tools or his advice. He was trusted and loved by many and his wit, his wisdom and his charm will be missed.
Tom is survived by his wife, Ann of Georgetown; daughter, Cheryl McCord and husband, Mark of Tulsa, Ok; daughter, Jan Kelly and husband, Denny of Muskegon, Michigan; and son, Tom Hudgins, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Houston, Texas.
