Thelma "Ruth" Taylor Lee
October 31, 1930 – January 13, 2025
Thelma "Ruth" Taylor Lee, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, at the age of 94. Surrounded by her loving family, Ruth left behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering devotion to those she cherished most.
Born on October 31, 1930, in Westbrook, Texas, Ruth was the cherished daughter of Lee Roy and Sallie Ingram Taylor. She grew up alongside her siblings Hazel Lee Taylor Proctor, Thurston Franklin Taylor, Myrtle Oma Taylor Johnson, Mary Lou Taylor Proctor Meador, and James Willis Taylor, forming lifelong bonds filled with love and shared memories.
Ruth married the love of her life, Lindsey Lamar Lee, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and faith. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Cheryl Elaine Lee Wilkinson and her husband, Mitchell Ray Wilkinson, and Katie Lynn Lee DeVall. She was also a proud grandmother to Stephanie Kay DeVall Zinsmeyer and her husband, Nathan Allen Zinsmeyer; Whitney Allison "Alli" Wilkinson Stanke and her husband, Roger William Stanke; and Olivia Katlyn DeVall Tatum and her spouse, Thomas John Tatum. Ruth was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Ronin Lee Tatum, Jackson Foster Zinsmeyer, Jonah Bennett Zinsmeyer, and Raylee Ann Stanke, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Ruth and Lamar shared a lifelong friendship with James and Betty McKinney, who were their best friends and companions through many years of joy and laughter. Together, they created cherished memories and were a source of support for one another.
Ruth had a fulfilling career as a draftsperson for oil and gas companies and the City of Odessa, retiring in 1990. Outside of her professional life, Ruth was deeply involved in her church community. She was an active member of the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and later found great joy singing with the Senior Church Choir, where her faith and love for music shone brightly.
Ruth's talents extended to her hands, which were rarely still. She loved to sew, crafting beautiful clothing for her daughters, items for her husband, and gifts for other family members, including baby clothes. Her true passion was crocheting, often working with delicate threads to create intricate baby booties, stunning centerpieces, and keepsakes that her family will treasure forever. Her banana pudding was legendary, bringing family and friends together to share in its sweetness and warmth.
She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, whose kindness, creativity, and faith inspired all who knew her.
The interment and memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
