Sylvia
Rogers
July 6, 1934 – December 15, 2024
Sylvia Rundell Rogers, 90, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024. She was born on July 6, 1934, in Douglas, Arizona, to James and Lois Rundell. Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Ed Rogers.
Sylvia's time was marked by ministry and discipleship. Having known the call of Christ at 9 years old, she gave her whole life to seeing others come to know him as well. Upon graduating from Florence High School in 1952, she attended Howard Payne College, where she met her husband Ed. They were married in 1955 and immediately began a life of ministry together. She was truly a co-minister with her husband, Ed, and the term "Pastor's Wife" does not do her justice.
In more than forty years of ministry, Sylvia taught, served, and sang so that others might draw near to God. Most notably, the Rogers family served in the pastorate of First Baptist Church Dumas, Texas for 34 years, where Sylvia taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. As a teacher and school librarian, first in Fort Worth and then in Dumas, she committed herself to the development of younger generations. In her home, she was known to take godliness, service, and hospitality seriously—faithfully taking in families with nowhere to stay. Into others she instilled a strong sense of practical moral action, and she and Ed continued to be spiritual teachers and leaders well into their eighties.
Sylvia could daily be found prayerfully reading her Bible in the sunroom. Once confined to bed, she took to listening to hymns. When offered encouragement that she would soon see Ed, she simply said, "Jesus. I get to see Jesus."
She is survived by her daughters, Janna Hill (Mike) and Susan Morrison (Neil); her son, Richard Rogers (Sarah); her sister, Fayma Humphreys; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Jake), Allyson (Jake), Ty (Kara), Libby, Luke (Amanda), and Andrew (Alexandra); and her great-grandchildren, Bailey, Titus, Kate, and Baker.
Sylvia's answer to the question of life's purpose was simple: It's Jesus.
