Obituary

Stennett Dee Posey passed away at home in Georgetown, Tx on July 20, 2025 after a courageous and valiant 9 year journey with cancer and its lasting effects. He was born on 9-11-1945 in Laurel, MS. His parents, A.D. Posey and Doris Stennett Posey doted on him and his younger brother.

Stennett was in the first class of St John's Episcopal School and excelled in football at Watkins High School. He played football at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS where he earned his bachelor's degree. In the midst of college he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.

After graduation he worked as a counselor at the Missouri Training School for Boys. Several years earlier he had met a teenage girl while visiting relatives in Texas. She would become his bride and they began their married life in the staff cottage on the grounds of the state school.

Two years later Stennett was hired as a parole officer for the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole in Houston. He completed his class coursework towards a Masters in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. The young couple welcomed their daughter, Kristen, in 1974.

In 1975 the family moved to Austin for a promotion in the agency. They bought their first home in 1976 in Georgetown just in time to welcome their newborn son, Shea. Their family life revolved around their children with Stennett coaching in multiple youth sports and following their extra-curricular activities.

Stennett would go on to hold multiple positions within the Board of Pardons and Parole as well as the Texas Department of  Corrections, including being appointed to the Board of Pardons and Parole by Governor Clements. He retired with 29 years of state service.

In retirement he enjoyed traveling, welcoming two grandsons, and staying in touch with friends.

One never had to wonder where you stood with him on any topic or matter as he had strong convictions and stood by them with transparency and honesty. He often pulled for the underdog in life, always wanting everyone to feel welcome, heard, and seen. He would only use the word "love" when speaking of people/humanity and pets (often clarifying when someone would ask him if he loved a gift or a meal, that he liked things and loved people).

During the early '80s he was known locally as "Dowdy" from his part-time job of deejaying at KGTN. He enjoyed old time rock and roll and country music, good southern food, sports, cars, and his granddogs.

Stennett fought three types of cancer with strong faith, grace, & dignity.  He asked his family for the promise of a celebration of life when he passed away rather than sadness and tears.

He was a loyal and loving husband to his wife Elaine (Laine); a doting father to his daughter, Kristen ("Dumpins") and his beloved son, Shea ("Cowboy"); a proud grandfather to his amazing grandsons Jackson ("Jax") & Camden ("Camo"), loved his daughters-in-law like his own (Trish & JoLynn,) & appreciated his extended family from Edna & Abilene, Texas, and Laurel, Mississippi. He valued long time relationships with school chums and work friends.

Stennett was pre-deceased by his parents, brother, Stan Posey and sister-in-law, BJ Posey.

Rest in peace, Stennett. Te amo, "Sten," Daddy, Pops, Dad, BigUn. We "love you more".
