Sean Patrick
Quinlan
February 12, 2000 – March 19, 2023
"If I am a bright candle and I am blown out, you will always remember me for how bright I was at that last moment."
Sean Patrick Quinlan passed away peacefully in his sleep at the young age of 23 on March 19 th , 2023. Sean had been battling a very rare and very aggressive form of cancer (Sarcoma) over the prior 14 months and had done so with such an unwavering strength and tenacity that was incredible to behold.
Sean was born in Honolulu, HI on February 12, 2000 to Richard and Lou Quinlan. In July 2007, he and his parents moved to Round Rock Texas. While he loved playing video games, he was also very active and loved to play outside with his friends and go on adventures. Sean enjoyed the outdoors and hiking from a very young age and this continued throughout this life. He was also an avid reader, and while he didn't watch a lot of TV, he was a big fan of Japanese Anime, particularly " One Piece ."
In 4 th grade his love for music started taking shape as he began taking guitar lessons after school. He loved his music teacher and missed no opportunity to practice songs assigned by his instructor, including Green Sleeves. Sean was so proud that he was able to learn that song and play it well.
In 6 th grade Sean began playing cello in the middle school orchestra and at some point along the way he taught himself how to play piano. While he had a hard time learning how to read piano music, he could play it by ear. In orchestra he was the first chair cellist in both middle school and high school.
In high school, Sean took an interest in rock climbing. This eventually led to him working on cell phone towers for the communications company known as Speak Easy. He absolutely loved that job, as well as his co-workers and bosses. This was a job that fit him like a glove.
Sean grew up to be a very compassionate and caring young man, but he didn't stand for disingenuous people and could see right through them. He knew a lot of people, but only had a handful of close friends. If you were in his close circle of friends, you knew that he always had your back.
During his battle with cancer, Sean once said, "Death can have me when it earns me," and he certainly stayed strong and fought hard until the end. Sean will be greatly missed by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, hanai family and his many friends.
"A hui hou kakou" – Until we meet again Sean.
