Obituary

Samuel "Sam" Brooken Gaines, 80, of Georgetown, passed away on March 27, 2019 with his wife, Mary Jean, Dallas his son, and Richelle his daughter, at his side.

A Grave Side Service will be held with Military Honors at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.

A Reception will be held in the reception room at 12:00 noon with a Memorial Service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, Texas 78633 .

Sam was welcomed to this life by his loving parents, Clyde and Tommie Virginia (Carpenter) Gaines, on December 8, 1938 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Sam served his country honorably as a United States Marine from May 28, 1959 until April 5, 1963.  He attended both West Texas A & M and New Mexico Highlands University and was employed as a Regional Sales Manager with Quaker Oats in the Gatorade Athletic Channel in Laguna Niguel, California.  He retired from there in 2000.   After retiring he enjoyed being a Realtor with Coldwell Banker and riding in his golf cart with his dog Beau.

Sam was an avid golfer and loved playing golf with Mary Jean and his brother Don. He especially loved football and the USC Trojans. Sam touched the lives of many young people during his years of coaching sports.

Sam and Mary Jean Fowler were married on May 30, 1998 in Orange, California.  They were members of the First Baptist Church of Georgetown and Sam was a member of the San Gabriel Masonic Lodge # 89 in Georgetown.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Tommie Gaines, and his little brother Don, of Corona, California and his grandson Alexander Christian Fowler.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jean Gaines of Georgetown; children:  Holly Lyn Gaines of Orange, California, Sam Owen Gaines and his wife Kristin, of Orange, California, Dallas Ryan Gaines of Orange, California, Robin Renee Fowler of Concord, California, and Richelle Randee Fowler of Georgetown, Texas; grandchild, Gentry Meiers of McKinney, Texas.

Memorials may be made, at the family's request, to the Alzheimer's Association at ALZ.org.
