Obituary

Sammy Berton Kyzar was born on December 22, 1940, to Bert and Evelyn Kyzar in Jackson, Mississippi.  He attended Provine High School and Asbury College before he joined the United States Navy, becoming an aviator and flight instructor.  He earned many recognitions for his service including Flight Instructor of the Year in 1969.  He concluded his Navy career with the National Military Command Center in the Pentagon and retired from military service after 21 years.  He then worked in the Defense Intelligence Agency until his retirement in 2013.

Sam married Margaret Elizabeth Criscoe in 1963, two days after receiving his Navy wings.  They shared over 60 years together living in California, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Texas, and Virginia before retiring in Georgetown, TX.  He was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  Sam enjoyed reading, college football (Ole Miss), traveling, and visiting with family and friends.

Sam was known as an excellent teacher, especially in the church.  He loved teaching the Bible and faith principles.  Youth and adults gained so much from his wisdom and experience. Sam served as a mentor to many.  He helped so many people with their lives, careers, and faith.  He was generous and kind.  His life radiated the love he knew Jesus had for him.

Sam is predeceased by his parents and his sister Rheta Campbell.  He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Tracey Kyzar Davenport and her husband Jack, and Shannon Kyzar Sands and her husband Sandy, grandchildren Taylor, Allison, Alia, Abigail, and Ethan, sister Paula Evans and her husband Doug, nieces, nephews and cousins, all dear to him.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2pm at First United Methodist Church in Round Rock, TX.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First United Methodist Church Round Rock or Wounded Warrior Project.
