Sally Posthill
Rittgers
March 16, 1930 – October 16, 2024
Sally Posthill Rittgers, of Georgetown, Texas passed to eternal life on October 16, 2024. She was 94 years old. A native of Syracuse, New York, she was the daughter of Thomas W. Posthill and Roberta Anne Flaherty, who both predeceased her. Sally was a lifelong homemaker, mother, and devoted military wife, and especially provided the family loving leadership during her husband's two deployments during the Vietnam War. She accompanied him on assignments throughout the United States and twice to Germany.
She was a 1952 graduate of the Syracuse University School of Fine Arts and was a member of the Alpha Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta social sorority. Following her husband's military retirement, they lived for 29 years in Schenectady, New York, where she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and served as a lay reader, greeter and prayer counselor. She was also a church and community volunteer. She especially looked forward to summers at the family cottage, "Sally's Place," on Skaneateles Lake, New York, where she was the hostess for many happy family gatherings. Moving to Georgetown in 2008, she was a member of Light of Christ Anglican Church and a faithful part of its prayer ministry.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Colonel Forest S. Rittgers, Jr., US Army, Retired, of Georgetown, sons Terry Rittgers (Tracey) of Oceanside, California and Scott C. Rittgers (Carolyn) of Aiken, South Carolina; daughter Karen Rittgers Powell (Marc) of Georgetown, Texas; grandsons Chad M. Mitchell (Ashley) of San Jose, California, Daniel J. Powell (Carrie) of Bath, Maine, Bryan C. Rittgers (Katie) of Leominster, Massachusetts, Nicholas F. Rittgers (Ashley) of Oceanside, California; Granddaughters Amie M. Rittgers of Milton, New Hampshire and Katie Sears (Cody) of Georgetown, Texas; great grandsons Slate and Ari Sears of Georgetown, Texas, Wilder Mitchell of San Jose, California, Arden Nicholson-Powell of Bath, Maine; great granddaughter Lily Rittgers of Leominster, Massachusetts; and brother-in-law, Lieutenant Colonel Courtney M. Rittgers, US Army, Retired, of El Paso, Texas.
She was predeceased by her brother, William H. Posthill.
Services will be conducted at Light of Christ Anglican Church, Georgetown, Texas at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 14th, 2024. The family will receive callers at the church prior to and following the service.
Mrs. Rittgers will be laid to rest on Monday, December 16th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Rittgers' name to The Caring Place, Georgetown, Texas. The family is very grateful for the loving care provided by Tiffin House Assisted Living and Memory Care, by Suncrest Hospice, and by Baylor, Scott, and White Hospital-Hospice.
