Obituary

Ronald Paul Bobinsky was born on November 23, 1932 in Hammond, Indiana, the son of Paul and Constance Bobinsky.

Ron had many adventures and accomplishments in his life. He attended Hammond High School where he was the captain of the swim team and held the backstroke swimming record for many years. After high school, Ron went into the Army. In 1952 he was a 1s t Lieutenant in the Airborne Ranger Infantry.

While he was in California, he met his wife, LeRay.  Their first date was a dance and they continued to love dancing throughout their lives. Immediately after Ron and LeRay married, he was deployed to Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following active duty, he served in the Active Reserves.  Later, Ron went to Orange Coast College where he played on the football team as a tight end and defensive end. He was also part of the swim team for Orange Coast College.

Ron and LeRay  were married in June of 1954 in Anaheim, California. They raised three children in Westminster, California.  Dad loved mom's cooking. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a hard worker, working many hours of overtime in order to take his family on lots of memorable vacation trips such as Hawaii, Lake Powell, rafting down the Grand Canyon and a Dude Ranch, to name a few. Family was dad's #1 priority!  He was supportive in many ways, whether it was driving 15 hours to Utah every other weekend to see his son play college football or taking the RV to visit grandchildren in Illinois and California each year.

Ron never knew a stranger. Ron and LeRay have many friends in California and hosted many parties at their home because he loved getting together, entertaining, visiting with friends, dancing, playing  cards and playing the ukulele or guitar. He was always quick with a joke and had a great laugh.

He was an avid sailor and won many races on his catamaran, Imua, which means "Charge". In 1972, he served as President for the Ocean Racing Catamaran Association. His biggest win was the Newport to Ensenada Race in 1972. The family often sailed to Catalina for weekends and Easter holidays.

Ron worked for Procter & Gamble for over 30 years and served a term as a Union Steward. At P&G he got his nickname, "Popeye", for throwing cases of soap on pallets to get them ready for shipping. After he retired from P&G, he became a real estate agent and later opened his own company, R.B. Real Estate Appraisal Brokerage Company.

In May of 1996, Ron and his honey, LeRay, moved to Sun City, Texas. He enjoyed all the amenities of Sun City, especially  golfing, investment club, square dancing and the RV club. He and LeRay were avid RV'ers. They went on many trips with their friends here in Sun City. He liked playing Horseshoes and Rings. He was also an avid reader, especially a good Louis L'amour western. Ron and LeRay had many friends in Sun City and, at the first Sun City Senior Prom, they were voted the King and Queen!

Ron attended San Gabriel Presbyterian Church where he was part of the hospitality team and helped in the annual church activities.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife, LeRay Bobinsky and his parents, Paul and Constance Bobinsky.

He is survived by his children: Susan Borg and husband Gerrit, Diane Fahrenkrug and husband Bill, and James Bobinsky; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
