Robert Glenn
Lambert
August 10, 1943 – May 15, 2020
A life well-lived and well-loved in service to others over himself.
Colonel (Ret.) Robert Glenn Lambert was born August 10, 1943 in Seattle Washington. He was a graduate of Lake Washington High School and was accepted to the United States Air Force Academy where he graduated and was commissioned into the Air Force in 1965. In his time at the Air Force Academy, Lambert finished fifth in the javelin at the U.S. Olympic Trials and set Air Force records in the high jump and javelin before returning to the academy as an assistant coach in 1972. He served a distinguished 28-year career in service to his country with a wide variety of assignments including two tours in Vietnam and more than 400 combat hours of flying. His final assignment as Vice Commandant of Air Force ROTC lead him to his true calling - Coach.
Upon his "retirement" he went on to become the head Track and Cross-Country coach for Troy University in Troy, Alabama. In his 14 years there, he guided his athletes while modeling a Christian heart, and demonstrated the characteristics of hard work, perseverance, and a spirit of gentleness. During his time at Troy University, he was an eight-time conference coach of the year, led the Trojans to seven men's conference titles and one women's conference title, all while more than 300 of his student-athletes earned all-conference honors. He finished his career as one of the most successful coaches in the school's history.
Coach Lambert passed away on May 15, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert R. Lambert and his mother, Ruth E. Lambert (Osborn). He is survived by his wife, Sandee; daughters, Tiffaney Henry and Hillary Kozak; sons-in-law, Richard Henry and Eric Kozak; granddaughters, Larissa, Sophie, and Gwen Henry. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Above all, he was a believer in Christ with whom he now dwells for eternity.
