Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard W. Lenning, a devoted husband, father, and friend, who passed away on January 15, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on February 20, 1946, in Boise, Idaho, Richard was known for his sharp mind, warm heart, and a life dedicated to his family, his community, and a boundless curiosity for the world.

Richard's family was always at the center of his life. He shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kathy, and together they raised two children, Becky and Craig, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and love.

Richard served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, an experience that instilled in him a deep sense of duty and resilience. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career as an engineer with the Department of Defense, working tirelessly to contribute to the nation he loved.

A man of many talents and unwavering commitment, Richard's thirst for knowledge was evident in his remarkable academic achievements, earning not one, but three master's degrees.

Outside of his professional career, Richard's life was a vibrant mosaic of service, creativity, and connection. He was an avid woodworker who poured love into every creation, including toys he lovingly built for Toys for Tots. He also led as President of the Eagle Boosters, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and served on both the Georgetown Standards Commission and the Georgetown Water Commission Board. Whether teaching credit recovery classes or sharing his expertise with the computer club, Richard delighted in helping others succeed.

Richard's passion for learning never waned. He studied astronomy, played in the stock market, and brought humor and wisdom to every conversation. Those who knew him will remember his ability to make people feel special, his clever jokes, and the way he always took time to truly listen.

Though his accomplishments were vast, it was Richard's warmth, generosity, and genuine love for people that made him truly extraordinary. He leaves behind a legacy of care and compassion that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Richard W. Lenning will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
