November 27, 1939 – December 12, 2024
Richard "Dick" Dathe, 85, passed away the morning of Thursday, December 12, at St. David Hospital due to complications from a stroke after battling heart issues for the last few months in Austin, Texas.
He was born on November 27, 1939, in Dallas, Texas, where he attended elementary school and junior high school. He graduated from high school at St. Mark's School of Texas in Dallas, Texas. After graduation from high school, Dick entered the Air Force and was stationed at Westover Air Reserve Base for four years in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, A&E Maintenance Squadron for the C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft.
Dick then made his way to back to Texas to attend the great University of Texas in Austin for most of his college career, where his blood became orange. In 1968, he transferred to Denton where he actually graduated from North Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and a minor in Marketing on January 8, 1969.
After graduating, he entered the insurance industry as a multi-line Underwriter in Dallas. Dick joined Texas Mutual Insurance Company in the Dallas Office as an Underwriter 23 years ago and later transferred to the Austin Office as Senior Underwriter where he was currently employed.
Dick enjoyed being with his family and friends. Known for his wit and a sense of humor that sort of took you by surprise, he will be missed and thought of often. Dick enjoyed sports- especially UT football and baseball, travel, music, cars, and creating stained glass panels. In the recent past years, he was learning to play the harmonica and the guitar.
Dick has been married to his wife, Patti, for the past 39 years. Dick and Patti lived in Georgetown, Texas. Over the years, they enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends.
He is also survived by his children, son Richard "Chuck" and wife Brandi Dathe, of Round Rock, son Christopher "Chris" and wife Cecilu Dathe, of Round Rock, and Patti's daughter Rachel and husband Doug Kelly, of McKinney. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren- grandson Dax of San Angelo, granddaughter Hannah of Orlando, Florida, granddaughter Reagan of Round Rock, granddaughter Jade of Round Rock, and grandson Davis of McKinney.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Richard A. and Louise Dathe, and sister, Phyllis Macey.
