Obituary

Richard E. (Dick) Carter was born December 7, 1942 and went to be with his Lord Jesus on December 13, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen Carter. His grandparents, Frank and Eva Carter and John and Nellie Murray.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ruth Hosp Carter.  Son, Christopher Carter and wife Shannon.  Daughter, Laurie Carter Michie and husband Michael.  Five grandchildren, Kellie Michie Phares and husband Caleb, Jennifer Michie, Meghan Carter, Mariana Michie and Aaron Carter.  His aunt Ruth Lawrence.  Brother-in-law Thomas Hosp and wife Peggy.  Nieces, Tashsa Hosp Auman and husband Ken, Jennifer Hosp Burr and husband Deron, Amanda Hosp White and husband Justin.  Nephew, Jacob Hosp and wife Angie and eleven great nieces and nephews.

He had a Master of Electrical Engineering Degree. He worked for IBM Corporation for 30 years starting in Lexington, KY in 1964 and transferring to Austin in 1967 as the first group to open the newly established Austin IBM facility. During those 30 years he spent four years with IBM International working out of White Plains, NY then returning to Austin to finish his IBM career.  After IBM retirement, he was part owner of an engineering firm in Austin and also sold residential real estate.

He had a love of music, playing both piano and trumpet. He enjoyed singing on the Praise Team and Church Choir.

The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Hines, who cared for him the last 23 years through several serious medical issues. And Jen Sizer of Silverado Hospice Care for the comfort and care of the last few weeks.
