Obituary

Raymond "Ray" Deryl Reed died on January 15, 2025 in Georgetown, Texas. He was 94 years old.

Ray was born in Alturas, California to Russell Jacob Reed and Nita Fern Wilcox Reed on March 29, 1930. He attended Tulane (undergraduate) and Harvard (masters) pursuing studies in Architecture and Design. He served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve, retiring from the Reserves at the rank of Commander. His professional career was spent teaching Architecture and Design at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Iowa State University and Texas A&M University, where he served as Dean of the College of Architecture and Environmental Design from 1973 to 1979. He was commissioned to design numerous homes across the country with a focus on energy efficiency. When not occupied with academics or design work, Ray liked to fish and tour the country – he loved the outdoors!

Ray was married to Patricia Ann (Reinerth) Reed for 63 years. He is survived by his sister Ramona Reed and his children, daughter Kathryn Needham and her husband David; son Russell Reed; daughter Ann Reed; daughter Andrea Liles and her husband Wayne. Also, his grandchildren: David Needham and his wife Allison, Autumn Needham, step-grandson Ian Fulford, Alexander Liles, Macy Skinner and her husband Ryan. Mr. Reed is also survived by three great-grandsons Meric Huber, Mathias Huber and William Needham as well as many nieces and nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his wife Patricia, his parents and siblings Marion Reed, Tony Reed, Aileen Wadman and son-in-law Eric Fulford.

A private family service will be held at the College Station City Cemetery later this month. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the "Raymond D. Reed Architecture Scholarship", Tulane University (Giving.Tulane.EDU  504-865-5744).
