Obituary

Ramón Rogelio Medina was born in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas on Tuesday, November 4, 1941, to Maria de Jesusa Juarez Ruiz and Rafael Andres Medina Murgia. On Monday, July 22, 2024, Ramón passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Maria Guadalupe Medina, by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Domingo Medina, Raymundo Medina, Adan Guadalupe Medina, Juan Zeferino Medina, and Mario Medina, and sisters, María Magdalena Leal and Susana Hilda Campos. He is survived by his wife, daughters, Rebecca Medina (Steven Croll) and Maria Guadalupe Medina Milner (James C.), sons, Ramón Rogelio Medina, Jr. (Mary), Roberto Medina (Mayela), Ricardo Medina, Raul Medina, and Ruben Medina (Diana), grandchildren, his brother, Jesus Vidal Medina, and sisters, Genoveva Alvarado and Teresa de Jesùs Fonseca.

After graduating from Martin High School in Laredo, Texas, Ramón joined the United States Army and served as a combat engineer in D Company of the 237th Combat Engineer Battalion from 1963 to 1966, rising to the rank of Specialist 5. After receiving an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Ramón returned to his hometown of Laredo, Texas and commenced working for the former United Gas Company, subsequently Entex and now Reliant Energy, up to his retirement in 2004.

To help his family, Ramón would accompany his father and brothers on an annual migration into the Midwest to pick various crops from the farming communities that they visited. During his U.S. Army service overseas, Ramón enjoyed visiting different parts of the United States and Europe, particularly Italy, while stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. While working with United Gas Company, Entex, and Reliant Energy, Ramón became deeply acquainted with the Laredo and surrounding communities that he served. Everywhere that he went, be it the Midwest and other parts of the U.S., Europe, or simply in his hometown of Laredo, Ramón made countless friends.

In his later years, with the need for continued employment behind him, Ramón enjoyed the company of his wife, family and friends at local restaurants. He particularly enjoyed singing karaoke. In this regard, it is said that he missed his true calling of being a singer. Still, in the end, Ramón loved his wife, children, and grandchildren to whom he remained faithful all his years.
