Obituary

Rachel Leigh Maloy, age 25, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on November 30, 2024. Born on March 24, 1999, in Austin, Texas, she was the cherished daughter of Laura McLaughlin Maloy and Bryan Maloy, beloved sister of John Maloy, and girlfriend of Drew Storey, the love of her life.

Rachel was a bright light in the lives of everyone who knew her. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 2017. During high school she was very involved with her school community, dedicating her time to the tennis team, archery team, National Honor Society, and FFA. After high school, Rachel attended The University of Texas at Tyler where she was a member of the tennis team and pursued her studies in pharmacy. She was also an alumna of the Delta Gamma Sorority, where she devoted her time to community service and volunteering.

After a year, Rachel followed her passion for flying, having already begun her journey at Pilot's Choice in Georgetown during her senior year of high school, where she earned her private pilot license. She was accepted into the second class of the newly established American Airlines Cadet Academy, where she furthered her aviation experience and earned her remaining pilot licenses. Throughout her career, Rachel worked as a Certified Flight Instructor for Genesis Flight Academy (2019-2021), a Pilot for Big Island Skydiving in Hawi, Hawaii (2021), a First Officer Pilot for Republic Airways (2021-2022), and a First Officer Pilot for Hawaiian Airlines (2022-2024) where she was part of the first all-women flight crew. Rachel's career took her to the skies, allowing her to make the most of her career, flying and traveling locally, across the U.S., and overseas, including Japan and Singapore. When she wasn't flying, she could be found working at GoJump Hawaii as a pilot for skydivers and at Volcom on the island of Oahu.

Rachel's love for adventure was beyond measure. In addition to flying, she traveled the world any chance she got. She also enjoyed surfing, swimming with whales and sharks, skydiving, boat outings, hiking, skateboarding, photography, and learning sign language. Life presented her with many unimaginable opportunities and she was always ready to say yes. She made the most of every opportunity. Rachel always loved spending her time with family and friends and was known for never missing an event. The care she showed for those close to her was unwavering and she always made those around her feel truly special. Rachel had a free spirit and connected effortlessly with everyone she met.

Even while bravely battling cancer over the past year, Rachel continued to follow her adventurous spirit and remained determined to make memories and check experiences off her bucket list.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all the amazing family members, and both old and new friends for the prayers, donations, encouragement, and support they have shared throughout this journey. Special thanks to the Hawaiian Airlines family, Queens Hospital nurses, Dr. Chawla and Team, Texas Oncology, City of Georgetown, and Devil Dog Squadron for their unwavering care and support.

Rachel was preceded in death by her grandparents Harry and Karen Maloy and Bill and Donnie McLaughlin. She is survived by her loving parents Laura and Bryan Maloy, brother John Maloy, boyfriend Drew Storey, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will forever cherish the joy she brought into their lives.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on March 8.
