Phillip
Jumonville
October 8, 1948 – May 19, 2024
Phillip Jumonville, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born in San Antonio on October 8, 1948 and died May 19, 2024 at 75. He graduated from Keystone School and headed to the University of Texas at Austin, where it was the Sixties. Enough said? While there, he met his wife, Patricia Alexander Jumonville – they were married on April 14, 1972, or April 29, 1972, or December 1, 1971, depending on which anniversary you count, and were married for 52 years.
After a brief sojourn in Seattle in 1971, they returned to Texas where their son, Phillip James, was born in Dallas in 1972. Moving quickly back to Austin, Phil continued his studies and then went to work for Half Price Books helping open their first Austin store and then other locations. Given that books and reading and education were a primary focus in the family life, it was a good fit.
Move forward several years, and after working for Ginny's Copying Service, Phil and a business partner decided to open their own printing business, Priority Copy, Inc., in 1983. It was a success from opening day, and existed for a little over 25 years. It was when Priority Copy was first being built that his second child, a daughter, Jessica Alexandra, was born.
Retirement to the ranch gave Phil time to further explore his varied interests in organic gardening and composting methods, reading, cooking, reading, design of many types, reading, architecture, reading, obsessive logical assessment of everything, and more. He was a complex man – as one friend described him, "the ultimate brainiac curmudgeon". At the same time, he liked people and believed in them . . . mostly. He will be missed more than he knew.
Phil is survived by his wife, Tricia Jumonville, his son Phillip Jumonville, his daughter Jessica Van der Woude (Chad), and his grandson, Walker Jumonville. He is preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Tasker Jumonville.
Burial was private. A Celebration of Life and Wake will be held June 22 – please reach out to Tricia.Jumonville@gmail.com for details.
