Obituary

Philip Matthew "Matt" Turpin of Georgetown, age 61, passed away November 25, 2019 of complications due to lymphocytic leukemia.  He is survived by his parents Lt. Col. (Ret.) Bill and Catherine Turpin of Georgetown, originally of Ashland, KY, his brother Duke and wife Karen Turpin of Georgetown, his sister Lydia Worden of Fayetteville, AR, and his loving extended family in Fayetteville.

Matt was born Dec. 28, 1957 at Naha AFB, Okinawa.  His birth location imprinted on him a lifelong interest in eastern philosophy and religions. He made a life's practice of, and became very adept at, Hatha Yoga.  Matt was president of the National Honor Society at Crockett High School in South Austin during his graduation year of 1976.  He read a great deal and concentrated on spiritual and philosophical works including many of the Buddhist and Hindu masters, and could speak knowledgeably about their teachings.  Matt was an independent thinker and had a rich intellectual, philosophical and spiritual life.  He regained an emphasis on Christianity in his last decade.

Matt loved making music and was self-taught on several instruments.  His particular love was the piano.

Matt lived a life of service to others as a paid caregiver for his loved paraplegic clients and as a loving assistant to his parents in recent years.  He will be remembered and missed for his kind and gentle soul, his generosity of spirit, and his loving and innocent approach to life.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated professionals who cared for Matt's multiple medical and mental health issues over the last year with such loving kindness.  A special thanks goes to the staff and physicians at Seton Williamson, Seton Main and the Georgetown Lone Star Circle of Care staff and providers.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lone Star Circle of Care.
