Peggy Louise
Egger
June 14, 1939 – March 16, 2025
Dr. Peggy Louise Egger passed away on March 16, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas. Born on June 14, 1939, in Palestine, Texas, Peggy lived a life devoted to education, family, and faith.
Peggy graduated from Palestine High School in 1957 and pursued her passion for teaching mathematics at Sam Houston State University, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She later achieved her Doctorate of Education in Mathematics from the University of Houston. Her career as an educator spanned decades, during which she taught mathematics in Fort Bend ISD before transitioning to Region 4, where she helped train and certify future educators. Even after retirement, she continued sharing her expertise as a mathematics professor at Sam Houston State University.
A dedicated and rigorous teacher, Peggy believed in the power of learning and instilled a strong work ethic in her students. She was widely respected for her high standards and commitment to excellence. In recognition of her contributions to mathematics education, she was awarded the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 1986. Many of her former students returned to express their gratitude for the impact she had on their academic and professional journeys.
Beyond her professional achievements, Peggy embraced life with much enthusiasm. She was an avid golfer who alongside her husband Kenneth, made their home in the Elkins Lake golf community for over thirty years. The couple enjoyed volunteering at the annual Spirit Golf Tournament and found joy in traveling across the United States and abroad. Peggy was also a talented artist who created beautiful paintings cherished by her family. She loved cooking, sewing, playing cards, entertaining loved ones, and embarking on new adventures.
Faith played a central role in Peggy's life. She and Kenneth were devoted members of Faith Lutheran Church and most recently First United Methodist Church in Huntsville Texas. Her deep belief in God guided her actions and provided strength throughout her life.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Egger; their three children: Robert Huntley and his wife Linda; Kathy Cook and her husband Steve; and Michael Egger and his wife Cathy. She was a proud grandmother to Jared Huntley, Mallory Land, Colin Huntley, Dustin Cook, Stephanie Huffman, Mason Egger, Cameron Egger, and Shannon Galvez. Additionally, she leaves behind many great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Peggy is also survived by her sister Patricia Teems and her husband Terry, along with numerous nieces and nephews
across generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois and Ernest Hoyler; as well as her brothers Perry Hoyler, Billy Hoyler, Bass Hoyler, and Joe Hoyler.
A memorial gathering will be held on April 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ramsey Funeral Home, located at 5600 Williams Drive in Georgetown, Texas. Family and close friends will come together for a small gathering and prayer service to honor Peggy's life.
