Obituary

Paul was born in Gosport England as the youngest of 4 boys. From the age of eleven all attended The Royal Hospital School in Holbrook.   Paul excelled in both his studies and on the Rugby pitch where his life-long passion for the game was born.  He graduated from RHS in 1984 then attended De Montfort University in Leicester, graduating with a BCSE in Computer Science in 1988.  Upon graduation, he pursued his passion for computing, working for Siemans-Nixdorf and BAX Global in London. While working at BaxGlobal he was sent to the United States as part of a multi-national team to modernize their computer systems in 1998..  This project led him to California where he met his wife Jan in 1999.  They were married in Hawaii on February 14, 2001. In 2005 they moved to Phoenix Arizona where Paul worked as a Datawarehouse Architect, designing and implementing Datawarehouse solutions for many companies, including American Express, Apollo (University of Phoenix), Active Network and University of California San Diego (UCSD) Supercomputer Center.  At UCSD he implemented solutions for both the U.S Government and the City of Hope.

When Paul and Jan retired he made good on his promise to show her the world. They traveled extensively for many years, experiencing 27 different countries. Paul's favorite trip was from Beijing to Moscow on the Trans Siberian Railway.

Paul and Jan moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas in 2022 where Paul pursued hobbies as a member of the Rod & Gun club, Computer Club and Zoomers.


Paul was preceded in death by his parents Ieuan Llewelyn Hughes, Lt.Cdr.Royal Navy, Ret. in 2010 and Shirley(King)Hughes in 2017. He also lost his stepson Brian Douglas Tew in 2012.

He is survived by his wife Jan Hughes of Georgetown, Texas and his three brothers and their families who all reside in England.

Services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home.
