Paul Robert Horst, age 70, of Georgetown, Texas, peacefully passed away on Wednesday July 8, 2020 after a decade's long battle with Lewy Body dementia.

Paul was born on Thursday December 29, 1949 to Robert Frederick Horst and Irma Ida Emma Horst in Wyandotte, Michigan. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he accepted an offer to be a computer programmer with IBM in Austin, TX, which started his 38 year career in computer technology. Two months after moving to Austin, Paul met the love of his life, Deborah Kay Anderson, in Bastrop, Texas. They were married 5 months later on August 25, 1973 and had a beautiful marriage. Paul worked in the computer technology industry for nearly 4 decades prior to his retirement.

Paul was a man of few words with a gentle, strong and loving spirit. He was brilliant and mechanically gifted with computer, house, car and electrical repairs. You could always count on him to "fix" something methodically and accurately. As a loving Dad, he gave advice and help to Lauren and Nathan on all types of subjects and projects. He always knew how to do whatever was needed. His patience was endless, never losing his temper.

Paul was an avid motorcycle rider of 35 years, enjoying long road trips and daily trips to work. After that, he traded that passion for his BMW Z3 convertible. The thrill of the open road and rush of wind was still there! Besides his family, he loved good German beer, classic rock and politics. Paul would want to remind everyone to exercise their votes this coming fall.

Paul welcomed Melissa into the family when she married Nathan. He was proud of being Granddaddy to Skyler and Alex and enjoyed playing with them when they were young. Once his disease took over his body, it was harder for him to engage with them but he could still hug them hello and good-bye.

Even though Lewy Body Dementia took away his physical abilities and speech, he was still the same smart and lovable person inside. We were fortunate to have been able to spend his final days together as a family, surrounding him with love. Although he couldn't speak the words at the end, we know he loved his beautiful wife and family with every fiber of his being. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Deborah Horst; Daughter, Lauren Horst; Son, Nathan Horst and wife Melissa; Granddaughter, Skyler Horst; Grandson, Alexander Horst; Sister, Doneta Malinowski.

In Lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations in Paul's name to Lewy Body Dementia Association 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
