Major Nelson Lee Sears, 45, of Salado, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was a beloved husband, father, son and brother.
Nelson was born on June 30, 1976 to James and Glenda (Reynolds) Sears in Atchison, Kansas. He grew up in Missouri until he was 13 and then his family moved to Alamogordo, New Mexico. After graduating from Alamogordo High School, he joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17. He graduated from CMSU in 1999 at which time he was commissioned as Nelson L. Sears II Lieutenant of the United States Army. He served his country for 23 years and was deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Amber Sears (McNider); daughters: Madison, Lilly, Isabella and Amelia; parents, James and Glenda Sears of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Grandmother, JoAnne McElwain of Platte City, Missouri; Grandmother, Mary Reynolds of Kansas City, Missouri; siblings: Tubalcain (Erica) Sears of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Tabitha (Mike) Ament of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Leah Freeman of Cloudcroft, New Mexico; multiple nieces and nephews.
Nelson was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Reynolds; grandfather, Thomas Sears; grandmother, Francis Sears; two brothers, Stephen and Andrew Sears.
The funeral for Nelson will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 starting with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m. Both are held at the 3C Cowboy Fellowship, 16258 Gooseneck Rd. Salado, Texas, 76571. Nelson will be laid to rest at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Bread of Life Cemetery, 5562 S.54 Hwy, Alamogordo, New Mexico, 88310.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. He is being cared for by Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas and Hamilton O'Dell funeral home of Alamogordo, New Mexico.
