Neil Eugene
Schweitzer
December 17, 1963 – July 23, 2025
Neil Schweitzer, born December 17, 1963, in Stillwater, Minnesota, passed away on July 23, 2025, in Austin, Texas. He was 61 years old. Neil grew up in Hudson, Wisconsin graduating from Hudson High School in 1982 and was a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan.
Neil dedicated his life to service—both to his country and his community. From 1987 to 1991, he served honorably in the United States Army. Stationed in Garlstedt, Germany with the 2nd Armored Division and later at Fort Hood with the First Cavalry Division, Neil was deployed to the Middle East during the Persian Gulf War. His time in uniform reflected his deep commitment to protecting others and standing for something greater than himself.
Following his military service, Neil continued his path of helping others by becoming a paramedic for Williamson County. From 1994 until his retirement in 2014, he worked tirelessly alongside many partners who came to hold a special place in his heart. His dedication extended beyond his professional duties—he also volunteered with the Weir Volunteer Fire Department and the Georgetown Medical Assist Team. Through these roles, Neil became a trusted presence in times of crisis and a steady hand when it mattered most.
Neil's compassion wasn't limited to people; he had an abiding love for animals, especially his beloved dogs over the years—Maxine, Diesel, Patty, Webster, Maggie, Ruthie, Poppy, and Winter. Each one held a unique place in his heart and brought him joy throughout different chapters of his life.
He is survived by his wife Stacy Schweitzer; daughter Samantha Schweitzer; sisters Anna Schweitzer and Marie Wheeler (spouse Don); stepmother Sharon Schweitzer and by those he considered his chosen Texas family—James Red, Karen Red, Lauren Red Oliver, Wes Oliver and Mary Sue Smith Fontenot. Neil was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Schweitzer and mother Alta Ness Schweitzer.
In the last eleven years of his life, Neil faced numerous medical challenges with remarkable strength. He battled Castleman Disease, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), Merkel Cell Carcinoma, and Lymphoma. In 2019, he underwent an allogenic stem cell transplant—a procedure that granted him additional precious time. His family is deeply grateful to the donor who made this possible and to the exceptional medical team at the bone marrow transplant clinic in South Austin for their compassionate care. Neil's legacy is one of service, loyalty, and quiet strength. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and courage.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Austin Hospice Christopher House. Celebrations of life are pending in Hudson, WI and Georgetown, TX.
