Obituary

Monty Clifford Nitcholas passed away peacefully in his recliner on the early morning of October 28th, 2024. Monty, who was 91 years old, had lived in the same house in Georgetown, Texas, for over 40 years, all but the last three with his wife of 66 years, Bettie June Britton Nitcholas.

Monty was born on December 8th, 1932, in McKinney, Texas, the son of Charlie and Fayma Lee Nitcholas. Monty graduated from McKinney High School, where he excelled at Baseball and Basketball. He earned a business degree from North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas) in 1954. After college, Monty served his country in the Air Force from 1955 to 1958, leaving with the rank of Captain. Monty served in, among other stations, Guam, where he played baseball for the Andersen Air Force base team, always fondly recalling the time they played in Japan.

Upon his return to North Texas, Monty began his career in Municipal Finance, as a County Auditor, in Collin County, in 1965. Monty moved up quickly, becoming the Director of Finance in Sherman, Texas in 1967, then serving in the same capacity in Austin, Texas from 1974 to 1980. In 1974-75, Monty served as the President of the Municipal Finance Officers Association.

Monty entered the private sector in 1980, working as an advisor to numerous cities and school districts as a Senior Vice President at First Southwest Company. He loved helping small communities finance their infrastructure needs and spent many Friday nights watching small-town football games.

In 2008, Monty retired fully, so he could spend more time with Bettie and pursue his love of golf. He won the Seniors Club Championship in 2000 at his home course, Berry Creek CC. He was very involved, alongside Bettie, in several Catholic communities, including over 40 years at St. Helen's Catholic Church in Georgetown, where he served on the finance committee.

Monty lost a son, David, in 1990, but is survived by: his daughter, Diane Simpson (James); his two sons: Kent (Brenda) and Mark (Zamara); David's wife, Johnna (Hoyt); his nine grandchildren: Levi, Lucas, Megan, Mandy, Dawson, Reid, Liliana, Paloma, and Nina; and his seven great- grandchildren, with the eighth on the way! Monty lived a long, fulfilling, humble and exemplary life, and he will be greatly missed and, along with Bettie, always be fondly remembered.
