Obituary

Milborne Ray Ward, 92, passed away on August 26, 2024 in Georgetown, Texas. Milborne was born on December 9, 1931 in Jollyville, Texas to Robert and Nancy Ward.

Milborne graduated from Florence High School and soon started his lifelong career in construction.

Milborne married Jamie Baker in Florence, Texas on January 29, 1953. The couple had four children; Nancy, Sheryl, Amy and Paul.

Milborne was an excellent provider for Jamie and his children. He worked in the construction field as a job superintendent and took great pride in his work. Many schools, hospitals, office buildings and homes in central Texas are a testament to his skill. His work ethic was greatly admired by his co-workers, family and friends. He and Jamie were very involved with the Florence community, school, and their church.

Milborne was on the city council, mayor pro tem, and a volunteer fire fighter. He loved watching sports and was an avid Cowboy fan, as well as a Texas Longhorn fan. He spent many hours watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports at school events. He was a lifelong Buffalo fan. Milborne was also a very good woodworker. He made hope chests for the grandchildren and beautiful wooden keepsake boxes for all of his family. He and Jamie also remodeled their home one room at a time through the years. It was a labor of love and a lovely home filled with family and friends.

Milborne is survived by his daughter, Nancy Brizendine and husband Curtis of Florence; daughter, Sheryl Flynn and husband Jim of Sunrise Beach; daughter, Amy Locke and husband Jim of Georgetown; and son Paul Ward and wife Shannon of Pflugerville. Grandchildren: Adam (Christy) Foster, Cary Brizendine, Hillary (Brandon) Lincoln, Emily (Ethan) Walker, Stephanie (Mario) Jimenez, Derek (Megan) Brizendine, Julie (Kendell) Ward, Erin Ward, Harrison Cruz and Olivia Cruz. Great Grandchildren: Andrew (Allene) McDade, Baylie and Samantha Foster, Wyatt and Tatum Lincoln, Eli and Eric Walker, and Amos and Baker Brizendine. Great, great grandchildren: Mazie and Steele McDade.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jamie Ward; his parents, Robert and Nancy Ward; and his sister, Mildred Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Florence Public Library.

Mr. Ward will be laid to rest at Florence City Cemetery. Please join family and friends at a graveside service, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
