Wiseman

** For those unable to attend, please us this link to access the live stream the family has provided, in partnership with Ramsey Funeral Home - In Memory of Michael Wayne Wiseman
Michael Wayne Wiseman was born August 17, 1947, in Monterey, California to William Redford Wiseman and Gladys Helen Andrews, and unexpectedly passed away in his home on January 4, 2025. He was the middle son of three brothers, with older brother Ron and younger brother Bill. Mike loved baseball from an early age and discovered the New York Yankees on a long-distance A.M. radio station, which he listened to in bed on his transistor radio. Mickey Mantle was his lifelong hero.
Mike's family settled in El Paso in the late 1950s. He enjoyed playing in the high school band, and especially serving as drum major, and playing sports. He was proud to have been in the first graduating class of Eastwood High School, where he and his classmates launched many traditions that continue to this day, and he was the human model for the figure and life-size statue of its mascot, the Eastwood Trooper.
He met his future wife, Melissa Springer at Eastwood. They married in 1968, and later gave birth to their first daughter, Monica Lynn Wiseman Latin. While Mike was a student at UTEP majoring in mathematics and assisting a professor involved in research at White Sands Missile Range, he was sworn into the Naval Reserve Officer Candidate program. After graduating from UTEP in 1969 and completing office candidate training, Mike was commissioned and stationed at the Point Loma Naval Electronics Laboratory in San Diego, where their second daughter, Marla Christine Wiseman Hand, was born in 1973. While in San Diego, Mike did sensitive computer programming for military use and met many dignitaries. He was honorably discharged in 1973 and remained in the Naval Reserves for many years.
The family returned to El Paso, and the girls were raised there with the Octubre Street family (and of course also attended Eastwood HS). Mike spent 23 happy years with El Paso Natural Gas Company, working in gas supply and gas marketing, and rose to the level of Director, also obtaining his master's degree in industrial engineering from UTEP in 1978 and participated in computerizing his company's natural gas transmission system as part of his master's thesis. Mike enjoyed many hobbies, including softball, golf, tinkering with electronics (even building our television), and watching Cowboys games. He was proud to have helped build a street stock race car with friends and spent Saturday night for many years volunteering at El Paso Speedway.
Mike's job took Melissa and him to Houston, where he joined Rimkus Consulting Group in 1996, working as a consultant and then Senior Vice President, retiring after (another) 23 years. Mike loved being in the consulting industry, being referred to as an "expert," and being sought out professionally for giving advice, which he was quite good at. As his cherished granddaughters arrived, he became paw paw, and the very picture of what a grandfather should be. Mike and Melissa were proud to be honored together as the Outstanding Graduates of Eastwood High at their 50th anniversary homecoming.
Mike and Melissa retired to Georgetown, Texas in 2020, where Mike found a community of new friends, and launched a new chapter – volunteering for community theater, more golf, even cooking(!), and more.
Everyone will remember Mike for his quick wit and immense brain (size 8 head after all) and fierce loyalty to family and friends.
Mike is predeceased by his parents, and survived by his wife Melissa, brothers Ron and Bill, daughters Monica (Richard Latin) and Marla (Justin Hand), granddaughters Brenna and Rachel Hand, and beloved dog Poppy.
A celebration of life will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas on Saturday January 25 at 2 pm. Following the service, the family invites you to join them in the Reception Hall at Ramsey Funeral Home for light refreshments and fellowship.
