Obituary

In loving memory of our treasured Michael James McGinnity.

Michael James McGinnity was born October 31, 1936 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and he entered heaven December 21, 2024, exactly six months since his wife passed. He missed her greatly. They had been married for 66 years.

He was the son of Mark and Alice McGinnity. He grew up in Milwaukee, WI.

He graduated from Washington High School and was class president and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann McGinnity.

He went on to have a successful career at Ben Franklin. His innate leadership and determination led him to become president of the company from 1980-1985.

Keeping with his humble nature, he told his father he got the job by telling him he would be visited by a company executive at his house. Was his father ever surprised when it was his own son who arrived at his door!

Under his leadership Ben Franklin successfully began to transition the concept of five and dime to craft stores. One of his favorite business relationships was with Michael J. Dupey. He helped him secure the first leases in Grapevine, Texas for Michaels Craft Stores.

His favorite words of advice were no matter what area of work your life led you to do, do it to the best of your ability.

Together he and Shirley welcomed four children into the world. Daniel, Kathleen (Louis), Timothy (Alyssa), and Mark (Laura). He was also a grandfather to eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Ryan, Christopher, Alisa, Justin, Eileen, Shawn, Grant, Scott, and Parker and Grayson. He tried hard to influence them politically and to be die hard Green Bay Packer Fans.

He attended Grace Bible Church for many years and always considered it his church home. He enjoyed being an elder and leading small group Bible Studies.

He will be greatly missed as he was dedicated to the strength of family and he lived what he taught. No job was beneath him, and his hearts desire was to be generous and give to others.
