Obituary

Michael Perry Haskin, 64, died on April 21, 2020, in Austin, Texas, with his wife and daughter by his side.

Michael was born to Perry Haskin and Lorena Tinney Haskin on July 25, 1955 in Port Lavaca, Texas. He grew up in Port Lavaca and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1973. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Houston in 1977.

Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Darla Walker, his father, Perry Haskin, and his mother, Lorena Tinney Haskin. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy Haskin, his daughter, Michelle Haskin, and her husband, Mustafa Tunç.

Michael described his memory of meeting Judy as "love at first sight." They knew after three weeks of dating that they wanted to marry but waited from their first date at a bowling alley in the spring of 1980 until January 1981 to tie the knot. Michael and Judy led an active life and enjoyed remodeling homes, RV camping, and serving in the Church, teaching Bible class together for many years.

Michael was a devoted father. Whether working in the garage, their makeshift factory; tutoring Michelle in math; going on a weekly Saturday morning donut shop run; or, in later years, discussing politics, Michael and Michelle had so much in common.

Michael was a lifelong Christian who always strove to do God's will and be a shining light for others in the Church of Christ. At Abell Street Church of Christ, Michael enjoyed leading songs and participating in door-knocking campaigns. Later, at Bertram Church of Christ, Michael harnessed his technological skill to assist the Church in various digital communications.

Michael's work ethic was an example to everyone around him. He worked at various companies, including Wabco, Skytop Brewster, Bosch Rexroth, and finally, Aventics. His job enabled him to become a world traveler, visiting countries such as Australia, Canada, China, Dubai, Germany, India, Mexico, Nepal, Russia, South Korea, and the United Kingdom. Michael's most animated moments often occurred while discussing the latest technical issues he encountered at work.

Michael's love of life inspired everyone around him. After his heart attack at age 44, Michael faced the challenge of continuing to work, raise his young daughter, and be a partner for Judy despite his diminished health. He met that challenge head-on, leading an extremely active life until his heart transplant and stroke in November 2015. Michael was always grateful to the donor's family and the team at the Ascension Seton Heart Specialty Care and Transplant Center for giving him almost five more years with his family.
