Melissa Jean
Davis
March 26, 1979 – October 17, 2019
Melissa J. Herzig-Davis, of Austin, TX passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019. She celebrated her 40th birthday this year with family and friends. Melissa was born on March 26, 1979 in Dayton, OH and lived in Houston and Dallas before settling in Austin. She studied psychology at Texas State University and began her career mentoring and tutoring for domestic violence, addiction and youth social service organizations before moving to sales at Dell where she rapidly rose through the ranks and became a Global Program Manager. She founded her own company, The Tattered Crown, creating hand-crafted custom furniture. She also loved her new position and team at Arrive Logistics.
Melissa was small in stature but had a large personality. She was formidable yet friendly and creative. She had a fantastic eye for style and could be talkative to all hours of the night. Melissa cared greatly about others, she provided care for both her father and her aunt during the final days of their lives. She loved unconditionally and would give everything she had for who she loved. She was fearless, willing to try anything once, and had a sense of humor like no other. Somehow she managed to convince her stepfather that paddling a cheap recreational kayak 100 miles was a terrific idea. They finished in second place in the mixed tandem class. She was a dear friend to many both near and far.
Melissa was the beloved mother of Christian Smithey of Knoxville, TN and Sebastian Davis of Austin. She is also survived by her mother, Deborah (Rick) Hacker of Austin TX; her brother, Chris Jackson of Oak Park, IL; her sisters: Christine Dinegar and Caitlyn Herzig of Bushkill PA; her aunt, Darlene Bryan of Succasunna, NJ; her uncle, David Bryan of Austin, TX; her uncle, Joseph Pantely of Vidor, TX and her dear friend and former husband Morgan Davis of Austin, TX.
