Obituary for Maxwell Arvin Daniel, Jr.

February 20, 1942 ~ September 19, 2024

Maxwell A. Daniel, Jr. (Mackie to friends and relatives) was the second child of Maxwell A. Daniel, Sr. and Elise Travis Daniel.  He was born in Chicago while his dad was stationed there in the Navy during WWII. He grew up in Baton Rouge, LA and eventually he and his wife, Karen, moved to Sun City, near Georgetown, TX.  He lived his best life in TX.  His family missed him, but was relieved that he was so happy with Karen and their new life.

He passed away peacefully as he slept during his afternoon nap.  He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and by the Grace of God the disease had not progressed very fast.  He could no longer drive but was content and had good relationships with those about him.

Mackie was a precocious child and excelled in art and scholastics from an early age.  He was musical and loved many genres of music, especially opera.  He even had a cat named Tosca for many years.   He also loved popular music of his era. As a teen he saved his money and bought a record player.  He played those records night and day.  Among his favorites was Mario Lanza.  He also loved the Platters!  Those who knew him well, couldn't help but remember his affection for music.  He never had any official training, nor sang in a choir, but music was a big part of his life.  Always the artist, he taught himself how to take photographs and develop those in a home lab.  His sisters will remember seeing photos "developing" in the bathtub at their home.  He was an oil painter and learned to "throw pots" while studying at LSU. In high school he ran track.  He was a natural!  In his adult life he was a talented draftsman and was in demand as such at several industries in the area.  He was very proud to be a friend of Bill W.  who had a great part in improving the quality of his life.  Many will remember Mackie for his quirky sense of humor… He was very clever!

He was a 1960 graduate of Istrouma High School in Baton Rouge, LA.  And attended LSU for a few semesters.

He was the father of four children who survive him:  Lora Johnson (Dale); Janet Lathrop (Scott); Michael Daniel (Jordan); and Brian Daniel (Samantha).  He left behind 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen, who cared for him in his last days.  He is also survived by three sisters:  Rosalind, Bootsie, and Carla who loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell and Elise.

Funeral Services will be held at Ramsey Funeral Home, 5600 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX on Friday October 4 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10:00  am until the time of the funeral service.   His ashes will be inurned in Louisiana at a later date.
