MARY KATHRYN SPILLER BRIGGS

August 20,1932 - December 11, 2025

Mary Kathryn Spiller Briggs of Georgetown Texas, formerly of Bryan and Calvert, Texas, went home to be with her Lord on December 11, 2025. Mary Kathryn was born on August 20,1932 in Hearne Texas to Harvey Sidney Spiller (Mayor of Hearne) and Lena Ruby Dixon. She graduated from Hearne High School in 1950 and belonged to the National Honor Society. President of the Junior Music Lovers Club, Twirler and Drum Major for the Hearne High School Band. After High School, she attended Baylor University and was a member of the Golden Wave Band. She married Charlie Pete Briggs III, of Calvert, on September 6, 1952, in Hearne Texas. Prior to the passing of Charlie in 2023, they celebrated 70 years of marriage together. After marriage they settled in Calvert, Texas, the Briggs family hometown and were active in the community. She was Worthy Matron of the Calvert Chapter #563 Order of the Eastern Star, President of the Calvert Woman's Club, Charter Member of the Mary O'Neal McCuiston Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for Robertson County. Mary Kathryn was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Pianist/Organist for many years. She served the Calvert School PTA and was active as room mother.

In 1970 the family moved to Bryan but held the property and home in Calvert near relatives. Mary Kathryn joined the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan where she served as Deacon, Elder and Circle Chairman. She continued membership until her passing. She was active in Bryan as a member of the Woman's Club, The Junior League, President of the Brazos County A&M Mothers Club, served the La Villita Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1995-97 she was elected to serve as the President General of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas where she served the important role of managing the Shrine of Texas Liberty at the Alamo. During this time, she hosted many international dignitaries such as Queen Elizabeth, President Bill Clinton, the King and Queen of Spain, President of Ireland and representatives from France. She and her late husband, Charlie, have both served—and remain the only married couple to do so—as President General of the Daughters and Sons of the Republic of Texas organizations. She had a deep love for her heritage and family history in Texas and more specifically to the Brazos Valley.

In 2021, she and Charlie relocated to Georgetown to be near family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Pete Briggs, III, her parents, Harvey Sydney Spiller and Lena Ruby Dixon Spiller and her brother, Harvey Sydney Spiller, Jr.

She is survived by her sons Charlie Pete Briggs, IV and his wife Carlene Kay Lumpkin Briggs of Georgetown, TX and James (Jim) Harvey Briggs, Sr. and his wife Janna Lee Green Briggs of Georgetown, TX. Grandchildren Charles Matthew Briggs and wife Samantha Christine Trasher Briggs of Houston, TX, Jonathan Peter Briggs of Georgetown, TX, Jared Andrew Briggs of Round Rock, TX, James (Jamie) Harvey Briggs, Jr. and wife Toni Elise Kinsey Briggs of Georgetown, TX, Kathryn Elizabeth Briggs and wife Erin Kacey Jennings of Denver, CO formerly of Georgetown, TX. Great-Grandchildren Ethan Matthew Briggs of Houston, TX, Benjamin James Briggs and Abigail Mae Briggs of Georgetown, TX, Carson Harvey Jennings and Peyton Lee Jennings of Denver, CO.

Mary Kathryn passed to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on December 11, 2025. Services will be December 16, 2025, at 1:30 P.M., First Presbyterian Church in Calvert, Texas with internment in the City of Calvert Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Roger Garrett of the First Presbyterian Church Calvert.

Pallbearers: Matthew Briggs, Jonathan Briggs, Jared Briggs, Jamie Briggs, Tim Estes and David Joyce Honorary Pallbearer: Kathryn Briggs and Ethan Briggs.
