Obituary

Mary Ai-Li Kuntz, 80, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 21.

Born on September 21, 1946, on the Naval Air Base in Pensacola, Florida, to Mary Frances and Harley Vilroy McVay, Mary traveled with her family as a child through Europe and Asia and, for a time, lived and went to school in Turkey. They eventually moved home, settling in rural Massachusetts near her mother’s family, where Mary grew up with her older brother and graduated from the University of Massachusetts as an English major.

Mary, known as Ai-Li by her friends and family, lived a life dedicated to her family and the Lord. She was a classically trained soprano, an English and elementary school teacher, a writer, and a baker. Her favorite place to be was in church singing with the choir, and on most days, the sound of her beautiful voice could be heard coming from the kitchen, filling every room in our home. She had a kind, giving spirit, often extending a helping hand to strangers. Later in life, she enjoyed volunteering at the Georgetown Police Department and baking treats for the local fire department. Above all these, she was a tender, nurturing mother who had a gentle way about her. She made a loving home for her family no matter where life took them. No words can express the depth of our sadness from her loss. There is an emptiness in our hearts that cannot be filled.

Mary is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed, of 56 years. She is survived by her brother, Peter; her children, Julie, Ceilih, and Kerri; her grandchildren, Jag, Amity, and Meegan; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for her, together with her husband, on January 14, 2027, at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a veterans' service of your choice.
